Financial services prudential supervisors, particularly in banking and insurance, need to develop the ability to assess and monitor internal models developed by the industries they supervise, in line with international developments toward the use of internal models to determine regulatory and economic capital requirements. As Basel II continues to be implemented in APEC economies, capacity building for senior policy makers to understand the management of standardised and advanced risk management models for regulatory and economic capital requirements is needed.
