US Free Trade Agreement – The New Opportunities and Impacts

1 and 2 March 2004, Rydges Hotel Canberra

In early March 2004, the text of the proposed Free Trade Agreement with the United States was made public. This Agreement will have far reaching effects. Public attention has focused on some key issues – access to agricultural markets, impact on cultural industries and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

The effect will be wider. A number of Australian industries are gearing for the new business opportunities the FTA will create. This conference was organized to provide an expert review of the detail and impact of the FTA as well as full range of opportunities it creates.

This Conference was organized by the Australian APEC Study Centre which hosted the previous two leading national conferences on the FTA. It is being sponsored by AUSTA, the Australian business group for an FTA with the United States.
