ABOUT THE PROGRAM

One of APEC’s goals, as laid out in the 2016-2030 APEC Education Strategy, is to increase the participation of women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). By enhancing research and fostering innovative growth among APEC economies, the 2023 fellowship program will not only enable women researchers to advance their capabilities and expertise in STEM fields, but also increase their employability, social well-being and contribute to the sustainable growth of their communities.

The APEC-Australia Women in Research Fellowship, initiated by the Australian Government, and administered by the Australian APEC Study Centre, offers up to 20 women researchers from developing economies an opportunity to complete a fellowship at an Australian research institution over one to three months. Through accessing leading academics, facilities, and equipment at an Australian research institution, establishing professional networks and fostering opportunities to collaborate internationally, successful applicants will be able to further develop their own research interests and deliver high-quality research outputs.

In alignment with the 2016 - 2030 APEC Education Strategy, the APEC-Australia Women in Research Fellowships program aims to:

  • Increase the participation of women and girls in STEM

  • Advance the careers of women researchers in STEM, as well as support mobility and research collaboration

  • Provide women researchers with opportunities to expand their professional networks and access the support and facilities of an Australian research institution to further develop their research interests and competencies

  • Foster opportunities to develop partnerships between research institutions in APEC economies

  • Deliver high-quality research outputs
